Earlier this month I was contacted by a food brand manager looking for a Peterborough food photographer to create images of a dozen recipes to promote their products via editorial publications and social media. They’d created a variety of dishes using their Fruit Bowl products, dried fruit snacks aimed at the children’s market. For example they’d created a curry using the Fruit Bowl dried mango flakes, and a pavlova with the Fruit Bowl berry pieces. I headed to their factory in Orton Southgate in Peterborough and met the team in the kitchen, where we’d spend the next day and a half. There was no natural light in the room at all, so emulated the effects of window light with one speedlight diffused through a large octabox and a reflector on the opposite side to lift the shadows. I tethered my camera to my laptop so the team could see the images as we went, making it easy to fine tune the composition and adjust any elements.
