Product & Lifestyle Photography for Emerging Technologies

The Brief
Nokia Bell Labs commissioned me on two separate occasions to create product and lifestyle photography for new technologies in development. While the products differed, the brief across both shoots was closely aligned: to create imagery that clearly communicated innovation, usability and human interaction.
The photography needed to work across internal communications, presentations and wider marketing materials — helping explain complex ideas in a visually accessible way.
The Approach
Both shoots followed a similar structure, combining clean product photography with lifestyle-led imagery showing how the technology would be used in real-world contexts.
As these were early-stage products and prototypes, attention to detail was key — ensuring the products were represented accurately, while still producing imagery that felt polished, modern and engaging.
Alongside the product imagery, we also captured a small set of workplace headshots, helping to humanise the teams behind the innovation.
The Photography
Omnipods – Wearable Technology
The first shoot focused on Omnipods, a set of wireless earpods designed not only for audio but also as a wearable computer, capable of tracking and measuring aspects of health and wellbeing.
The imagery included:
-
Detailed product photography highlighting design and form
-
Lifestyle images of people wearing and interacting with the technology
-
Clean, minimal compositions suitable for technical and corporate use
The goal was to balance advanced functionality with approachability — showing the technology as something seamlessly integrated into everyday life.
Bella – Programmable Children’s Robot
The second shoot centred around Bella, a programmable children’s robot toy designed to introduce young users to the fundamentals of coding and computational thinking.
Bella can be programmed via an app to behave differently depending on what it encounters in its environment, encouraging learning through interaction and play.
For this shoot, we captured:
-
Product-focused imagery of the robot itself
-
Lifestyle scenes showing interaction and engagement
-
Visual storytelling that communicated learning, curiosity and creativity
The imagery needed to feel playful and accessible, while still aligning with Bell Labs’ forward-thinking, research-led ethos.
The Outcome
Across both shoots, the final image sets provided Nokia Bell Labs with clear, versatile visual assets that help bridge the gap between technical development and real-world application.
By combining precise product photography with lifestyle imagery and human context, the photographs support storytelling around innovation — making emerging technology easier to understand, engage with and communicate.
